Sense of community: Membership

Membership is the first element for a sense of community. It is said that we become members of a community when we feel:
- secure (Sri Mahligai is a gated community with security guards, so we should be secured, or do we not?)
- personally invested (not sure how but probably because we need to pay maintenance fees)
- sense of belonging, or, (do we feel belonged?)
- identification in the community (we don't have any badges...but we need car stickers to show where we live)

Next, element INFLUENCE

SENSE OF COMMUNITY

What do you understand by "sense of community"? It has been reported that it means "...a feeling members have of belonging, a feeling that members matter to one another and the group, and a shared faith that member's needs will be met through their commitment to be together (McMillan and Chavis, 1986)". Do you think you have that feeling? You know something like...you feel sad or lonely and there is someone out there in the community (Sri Mahligaians?) who you can speak to? Hmm....or perhaps you run out of sugar and ....there's.... the little shop at the club house that you can buy, of course where else, for goodness sake!

Anyway, McMillan and Chavis identified 4 elements they said compose a person's sense of community. What are they? Will be sharing with you the next time.

Parking woes?

May be MC should consider mechanical or multi parking or stack parking?

Cats, kitties oh...

They can be so adorable....when they look like the one on the right! But when there are just too many of them they can become a nuisance. In fact, the house rules clearly stated "...no pets" which includes cats! The following comment was posted regarding cats...

"hi.. i dont know where else to put this question at. so here we goes.. i was wondering, does the condo management allows the residents and tenants to have cat at their house??"

A Punching bag is.....

"A heavy bag is a larger, cylindrical bag, usually suspended by chains or ropes for practicing powerful body punches"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punching_bag)
Unfortunately, the punching bag at the gym is on the floor....

It's a long weekend!

Sigh! what a relief its CNY holidays and happens to be a long weekend. I can see many residents are taking this opportunity to be away from home. Hot weather seems to be here again, and so is dengue...no not that I know of anyone being down with one, well not at Sri Mahligai but somewhere else in other parts of Shah Alam. The hot spell has also drove loads, I mean loads of people to cooler areas like to waterfalls at forest reserves. Well at least this was what I saw today when I went to Ulu Yam for a get together with my family. It's amazing to see all the vehicles jamming up the parking areas and also the road leading to the picnic spots. Back at Mahligai, the pool is very quiet...

By, the way I wonder whatever happened to the visitors' parking located between blocks 16 and 17? I know MBSA has put up a huge banner regarding parking outside our compound but that does not mean we should take up all the parking inside our area. What happens to our visitors when they visit us? I do hope the Management will enlighten us on this. I hope MC is sensible enough when they let out parking spaces to residents. Please don't do it at the expense of visitors.

Happy holidays!

Oh my guard....

An Anonymous sent this comment and I find it rather amusing...
"The management are becoming strict-er. Before, it was pretty relaxed i would say...
I wonder what they are trying to accomplish.
The security guards are keep on changing...and being biased so many times unless u biasa with them and belanja duit kopi then ure alrite.
A car was clamped for no reason and no apologies were given.
A car wasn't clamp when it is parked under the tree for instance but not the other car that did the same thing.

Welcome to the real world."

Water meter migration

MC has distributed the Syabas water meter migration form. If this goes well, it means everyone is responsible on their own water meter.
